Arthritic Needs
As if the aging process doesn't present itself with enough life
changing challenges and adjustments for our parents, individuals
suffering from Arthritis might be faced with their biggest obstacle
for maintaining independence. Their efforts to lead a
"normal" life can now be a personal struggle that brings
with it both physical and emotional exhaustion.
Activities of daily living, those necessary activities that we
perform routinely such as bathing, feeding, dressing, and hygiene can
be monumental tasks and struggles to achieve. Arthritis poses many
physical and functional barriers in the lives of persons afflicted
with it as well as an incredible amount of pain and suffering.
Fortunately, there are a number of household appliances that can
make their lives easier and painless. Arthritic hands can make simple
tasks such as picking up silverware or turning light switches on
difficult. Rocker Light Switches
are easy to operate and allows the person to have better control in
turning light switches on and off. Another great product to consider
is the Motion Sensor Light Switch.
This product allows an individual to enter and leave a room without
ever flipping a switch. This product is activated by movement and
turns itself off after a set period of time. Since mobility is one of
the more difficult challenges that our parent's face these switches
allow them maximum use of their arms and hands when moving from one
part of the house to another.
Arthritis also effects the use of our fingers and simple activities
such as pushing telephone buttons, tying shoe laces, buttoning shirts
or blouses can be very frustrating and nearly impossible. As children
of aging parents the telephone is often our direct link to evaluate
and check in on them from time to time. The
Large Button Keypad Adapter is a practical approach
allowing persons with Arthritic hands to properly engage telephone
numbers and to dial the correct number. This product fits over phone
keypads and instantly eliminates the difficulty of pushing small
buttons. The Button Pusher
is another very practical device that can assist them with pushing
buttons. This easy to use product takes the pain out of using
microwaves, telephone keypads, calculators, elevators or any device
that requires one to push buttons to operate.
Another area of difficulty and frustration is the struggle that our
parents have tying laces or gripping and holding items such as grocery
bags, handbags or purses. Lace Locks
relieves the struggle of tying laces in hard to do areas such as shoes
and coat strings. One simply threads the lace or string through the
plastic Lace Lock, adjusts for tightness and slides the plastic knob
on top to lock the shoelace or string in place. The Grocery
Grip Bag Holder is another unique product that allows
persons with Arthritis to carry grocery bags or other handbag type
items. Persons that have difficulty handling weight or closing their
hands will benefit from this product.
