This months tip corner focuses on safety rails, grab bars, and the preventive measures you should take to avoid serious injury or even death due to falling in your home.

Falling can occur anywhere at anytime, but most occur by people 65 or older in their own home. Taking the steps to prevent these falls are the key factors to avoiding injury. It definitely costs less than a medical bill.

Life@Home provides safety handrails and grab bars for your home. When installed correctly, give you the security you need to be safe in your shower, on your stairs, and anywhere else in the home that might be threatening. Below are some helpful products and safety tips to consider when "safe-proofing" your home:

  • "Sure-Grip" grab bars (new item). Designed for bath or shower use, provides maximum grip.
  • Safety treads for ramps or stairs (interior/exterior).
  • Our grab bars come in sizes ranging from 12" to 36"(white/almond).
  • Make sure there is plenty of light, treads, and handrails in every set of stairs.
  • Use non-skid backings on all rugs in your home.
  • Have proper grab bars in toilet/shower areas.
  • Remember……If you fall don't panic. Crawl to a phone and call 911, friends, or family to assist you.
